People are demanding better groceries.

In our survey of 1500+ Aussie grocery shoppers, we asked what elements you value most when choosing better everyday staples.

Respondents were able to choose their top preferences from a list.

Here are the most popular choices:

1. Products with all natural ingredients.

Consumers care about what goes in - and what is left out - of their groceries more than ever. When we know more, we can make better choices, and time is up on sneaking secret trademark chemicals into our consumable goods. We're getting pretty darned savvy at reading ingredient lists!

Side note: check out the awesome app by Additive Free Lifestyle that will help you find potentially harmful ingredients and additives to watch out for.

The Fill Market has been curated to help make better choices like these. The Australian brands here use natural ingredients, without toxins, synthetics, perfumes and fragrances (only from plants, like in essential oils).

Always, if you're not sure what an ingredient is, please get in touch or ask the brand.‍

2. Products with no or minimal plastic.

Hooray! We’re pretty limited for waste-less choices in conventional supermarkets, but we must admit the options are getting better.

This result means people are choosing groceries in packaging like glass jars and tins, over plastic packaging where they can.

We created this directory to show that it is possible to find pretty much all grocery items single-use plastic free! Looking for something specific? Search our directory and please get in touch if we're missing something!

3. Products without packaging.

It’s also great to see this was such a popular survey response, and the example given was fresh produce.

We all know way more needs to be done to fight food waste, with strict (and really quite stupid) supermarket food standards very high on the blame list. But do we really need our wonky fruit and veg packaged in single-use plastic bags? No thanks!

You can find plastic-free seasonal fresh produce in the directory! Check out Funky Food on the east coast and Dirty Clean Food on the west coast, and we’re always looking to add more produce box delivery services! If you have a great one in your hood, we’d love to hear - especially if they are from regenerative farms, organic farms and spray free.

Do you look out for these things when choosing your groceries too?
